Technological Studies is part of the Scottish Standard Grade course.[1]
The base Standard Grade course includes:
A Credit pass at Standard Grade can lead to the University Qualifying Course of Higher Technological Studies, which consists of three main units:
each of these units contains either 3 or 4 outcomes which detail specific parts of the unit, and can be quite different from each other.
A (currently 3-hour exam) is sat for Higher Technological Studies as well as an internal National Assessment Bank issued by the SQA, for each unit. Candidates must pass each NAB in order to sit the exam. (Previously, there was a NAB per outcome, but the new system results in only 3 NABs).
Higher Technological Studies is notoriously one of the hardest Higher exams to pass with only a 60% pass rate. This results in uptake for the subject being rather low.
Past papers for both levels are available from the SQA website, as are other Scottish Standard Grade, Intermediate 2 and Higher courses.[2]
Course notes are available on the Learning Teaching Scotland website.[3]
